In February 2023, I was fortunate enough to be provided the opportunity to participate in a two-week study tour in Toyko, Japan as a participant of the New Colombo Plan Mobility Program. This Australian Government initiative, supported by Edith Cowan University (ECU) and Tokyo City University (TCU), provided me two engaging weeks that were truly transformative, both academically and personally.
My time at TCU offered me a unique insight into Japanese culture and their education system, which I would not have been able to experience otherwise. The program was incredibly well-structured, and I truly appreciate my time engaging with Japanese students and learning from their perspectives.
Moreover, I was able to visit several iconic places in Tokyo and surrounding regions, experiencing the countries rich culture firsthand. The study tour helped me expand my knowledge, and I feel more confident and culturally aware as a result. I would especially like to thank Nissan Motor Corporation for their involvement in the program and providing access to their facilities and assembly lines!
I am very grateful for the support I received throughout the program, and wish to personally thank the Australian Government , ECU and School of Engineering, TCU and Professor Homma Koji, Professor Hao San, and the many lecturers and students involved. And thanks to our wonderful ECU staff Professor Mark McMahon, Dr. Majid Rad and Dr. Eko Pam. Lastly, I want to also acknowledge Yuanchi Chen, a PHD student who supervised my team’s labs at TCU. Yuanchi showed us around the local areas and was very inclusive and open in his discussions, a great mentor and I am happy to call him a friend!
I will always cherish the memories and friendships I made during this unforgettable experience. I look forward to remaining connected as a New Colombo Plan Alumna and contributing to its mission of deepening Australia's relationships with the Indo-Pacific region.
